Committee on Standards and Privileges: role and membership

The Committee on Standards and Privileges oversees MLAs’ conduct. It considers the Assembly’s Code of Conduct and the Register of Members’ Interests, and examines matters of parliamentary privilege, working alongside the Assembly’s independent Commissioner for Standards.

Complaints about an individual MLA’s conduct are investigated by the Commissioner for Standards first; the committee then considers the Commissioner’s findings and decides what action, if any, the Assembly should take.

Who sits on it

The committee is chaired by Cathy Mason (Sinn Féin), with Connie Egan (Alliance Party) as deputy chair. See the full nine-member roster on the committee’s page.

Data sources

Membership and chair data are drawn from the NI Assembly’s official committee records, kept up to date by the weekly Assembly sync.
