About MLAs.News
MLAs.News is an independent, non-partisan website about the Northern Ireland Assembly. Our aim is simple: make it easy for anyone to see who represents them, what those representatives are doing, and how the institutions actually work.
What we do
The site has three layers:
- The record. Structured, up-to-date profiles of all 90 MLAs, the 18 constituencies, the parties, the committees, the nine Executive departments and every bill of the current mandate — built from the Assembly’s own official open data. Our methodology page explains exactly where each piece of data comes from and how often it is updated.
- Understanding. Plain-English guides to how Stormont works — how laws are made, how votes are counted, what an MLA does — plus a glossary of Assembly jargon. These explain procedure; they do not take sides.
- Coverage. Reporting and analysis grounded in the record above, held to the editorial standards we publish.
What we stand for
Neutrality. We apply the same evidential and framing standards to every party and every MLA. We don’t endorse parties, candidates or referendum positions.
Accuracy. Facts are sourced to official records — Hansard, the Assembly’s open-data services, official bill pages — and we show our sources. When we get something wrong, we say so: see our corrections policy and public log.
Independence. MLAs.News is not funded by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Northern Ireland Assembly, the Executive, or any political party. Details are on our ownership and funding page.
Who runs it
Chris Taylor is the publisher of MLAs.News. He spent 13 years working in the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Communications Office, managing the Assembly’s websites and social media, before founding this site to make parliamentary proceedings and information easier to follow.
